Originally Recorded On 6.17.2026
Episode 121 welcomes Coach "Pop" Haley of Southern Maryland Christian Academy to the DMV Hoops Podcast as he joins Kurt & Chelsie live from the Capitol Hoops Summer League.
For Coach Haley, basketball has always been about more than wins and losses. While his teams have certainly enjoyed their share of success on the court, his true mission extends far beyond the final score. Every practice, every game, and every conversation is rooted in his commitment to developing young men who are prepared to succeed in life long after their playing days are over.
Throughout the episode, Coach Haley discusses the values that have helped shape the culture at Southern Maryland Christian Academy and the importance of holding student-athletes to a high standard both on and off the court. He shares his perspective on leadership, accountability, faith, and the responsibility coaches have to positively impact the lives of the players entrusted to them.
The conversation also explores the challenges of balancing competitive success with personal development. Coach Haley explains why winning matters, but why the lessons learned through adversity, discipline, and teamwork often leave the greatest lasting impact.
As always, Coach Haley brings passion, wisdom, and authenticity to the microphone, making this one of those conversations that reaches beyond basketball and into the bigger picture of mentorship and leadership.
Winning games. Building character. Developing young men.
